The bioenergy sector, deriving predominantly from wood residues and waste materials, accounts for over 12% of the European Union's energy consumption. Thanks to bioenergy the EU can reduce its dependency on unreliable fossil fuel, mitigate climate change impacts and stabilise energy prices. EU legislation is increasingly challenging, but it is also an opportunity. Bioenergy is showing the way to other economic actors on how we can grow sustainably.
